The Two Part Search Less One

Terms in quotes are treated as an exact phrase and one term, up to three terms.

What is the first term (for example "rental property" or "rental property loss" )?

What is the second term (for example "passive activity")?

What is the term you do not want  (for example "passive activity")?

  • Let's find you an explanation exactly on point

This page is best used when you are finding too many documents on a topic which does not apply to you.

When you complete the information below, you will notice a place for three terms. The first two sections are for the terms you want; the last section is for the term that you do not want.

For example, your search for information about a loss on rental property may also be finding information on corporate tax law.

To find an explanation of the tax law regarding the passive activity rules of rental property with loss and without any reference to a corporation, your search the terms to be included would be "rental property loss" and "passive activity." The search term that is to be excluded would be "corporation."

We set the software to look for the excluded term within 50 words of the included terms. The documents found for you would exclude all documents when the word "corporation" is within 50 words of your other two search terms.

Finding the next occurrence of your search terms.

You search terms (two sets) may be a few inches apart. This is because the software is looking very closely at all of the IRS documents and is selecting only those documents where the two terms are within 25 words of each other.

Adobe Format Files

Adobe has its own system that lets you:
1. click for the next occurrence,
2. search with in the file
3. save the file in Adobe format.

Text Format Files

My software has two icons. One icon (on the right side of the menu bar) is to find the next occurrence of your term.

The other icon is to go to the next document.
